Kentucky Voices for Health is working with many other groups in the state to encourage Kentuckians to submit comments during the federal comment period (starting 9/8 for 30 days) on the Governor’s proposed 1115 Medicaid waiver. The denial of Ohio’s and Indiana’s waiver proposals have encouraged opponents of Kentucky’s request. On UHCAN’s 9/16 national call, Emily Beauregard, KVH’s Executive Director, described the Kentucky waiver as going much further than either Ohio’s or Indiana’s in creating barriers for people to access their Medicaid program and needed health care.  She said it is estimated that 88,000 people will lose coverage and if all or some of the components of the waiver are upheld this could create a dangerous precedent for other states.  Over 800 comments opposing the waiver were generated during Kentucky’s 30-day comment period and advocates are hoping for a similar response this month.

Kentucky Voices for Health has created a Toolkit for the federal comment period. This flyer lists numerous community forums taking place across the state.
